Neon at Noon Pittsburgh Signature Blend (Merino Shetland Bamboo Silk) 4 oz
Before the Clean Air Act, the air in Pittsburgh was smoky and grungy, settling into the stone of buildings and even the walls of the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. At times in the 1940s, the smog was so bad that it was dark enough at noon to trigger the neon signs to turn on - the inspiration for this Signature Blend - a grungy pinkish grey with pops of colors from slubs of Sari Silk.
This Signature Blend contains 50% Merino wool, 25% Shetland wool, 12.5% Sari Silk, and 12.5% Viscose (bamboo) in a custom blended combed top designed by HipStrings and milled in the UK and is sold in 4 ounce quantities.
Show in the listing photo is a four ounce portion along with a mini-skein of a 2 ply worsted weight handspun sample. A one ounce handspun skein is show to the right of the fiber. Sample yarn is a 2 ply - how this fiber spins up will vary greatly depending on drafting method, thickness of single and other such factors.
Care: Hand wash in tepid water (we recommend Unicorn Fibre Wash), lay flat to dry. This fiber will felt!
Colors may vary according to monitors, but all effort has been taken to accurately depict the colors of the fiber.
