For the Precise Control Card

To calculate the wraps per inch (WPI) of your single or plyed yarn, wrap the single/yarn comfortably (not tightly, but not too loosely) in the notched area and divide the total number of wraps by 2.

or a quick estimate, line up your single/yarn with the line of the same thickness - the number in the middle of the line is the wraps per inch.

For an Angle of Twist Gauge

To estimate angle of twist, place your single (plied against itself) or plied yarn on top of the gauge and line it up with the angle that best matches the twist in your fiber.  Angles are mirrored so you can easily determine if you are dealing with "S" or "Z" twist.  When checking the angle of twist of a single plied back on itself, the direction of twist in the single is opposite the twist direction of the plied sampled.

For the Consistency Card

For a quick estimate of WPI, line up your single/yarn with the line of the same thickness - the number in the middle of the line is the wraps per inch.
